A worship leader of nearly 18 years and founding pastor at Red Rocks mega-church in Golden, Colo., Todd Ballard will release his national debut, Anthems, on Feb. 5. The project, a collection of anthems to God, showcases an all-star lineup of producers, writers, and players.
Produced by Otto Price (TobyMac, BarlowGirl), Anthems comprises 13 epic songs which Ballard describes as “anthems from the heart...each song is an anthem of the way I love God.” The album also reflects his unique ability to connect with the worshipper’s heart.
“As a worship leader, I think I understand what people connect with because I’ve been there,” says Ballard. “I wasn’t trying to break the mold when I recorded Anthems. I did try to, musically, make it different; but I tried to write really easy, hooky songs that make it simple for listeners to connect with God.”
The album’s liner notes read like a “who’s who” of industry talent with contributions by mix engineer Ainslie Grosser (Matt Redman’s “10,000 Reasons,” Laura Story’s “Blessings”); Brad Blackwood (Maroon 5, Alison Krauss & Union Station), who mastered the record; guitarist/cellist Brent Kutzle of
OneRepublic on select tracks; and legendary producer DJ Frank E (Flo Rida, B.o.B, Justin Bieber) adding some underlying beats to “Closer to Me.”
“It was an honor to get to work with such amazing talent on this album,” says Ballard. “I can only attribute it to the favor of God. It's all a bit humbling when I look at the credits, kind of surreal.”
Among those stand-out cuts are “Why We’re Singing,” co-written with multi-Dove Award-winning Producer of the Year Ian Eskelin, inspired by a sermon from Charles Spurgeon on the foundations of faith; and “Immanuel,” a ballad about resting in God’s presence. The project also features a poignant cover of Delirious’ “Find Me in the River.”
Anthems will be available at all digital music outlets and physical retail via New Day Christian
Distributors. For more information, visit toddballard.com.
About Todd Ballard
Veteran worship leader Todd Ballard has been ushering audiences into the presence of God for nearly 18 years. A founding pastor at one of the country’s fastest growing congregations--Red Rocks Church in Golden, Colo.--Ballard recently left his position to pursue music full-time.
With influences as diverse as Angels & Airwaves and 30 Seconds to Mars, Ballard doesn’t want to sound like every other worship artist in the marketplace. Instead, he desires to emulate the same sounds and lyrics that resonate deeply with him, inspiring others with emotionally charged music that spurs them on toward praise and adoration of our Lord.
