Artist: Stephanie Smith Album Name: Self-Titled Label: Gotee Records Comments: When I first heard Stephanie Smith's music I thought how come I haven't heard of her before, then when I heard that she is from my home state of Pennsylvania I knew that I had really dropped the ball on this one. Smith's 2008 Gotee Records' debut, Not Afraid, was well met by both critics and fans. Her new self-titled 5-song EP is filled with songs that manage to have just the right mixture of pop and rock music and is now available for purchase through iTunes and other digital retailers. Smith, who is only in her mid-20s, shows much more wisdom then those tender young years in the songs that are found on this EP, all of which she had a hand in co-writing. Also brought onboard for the project was well-known music producer Mark Lee Townsend (Relient K, House of Heroes). "Back to Innocence," is the first track found on the EP and also the first single released from it. The song is an all out rocker filled with big guitar riffs and hard drum beats. Like most of Smith's songs the theme found on this one is about turning things around, not getting caught on the why or what of the situation, instead focusing on how to make things better and the redemptive powers of Jesus. The message that's found on the pop/rock track, "If You Really Want the World to Change," is one that we as Christians need to always keep in mind. That message is that we need to be doers of the Word not just speakers of it. We need to live a life where we put our faith into real life actions reaching out to and helping others wherever there is a need. The track, "Joshua," offers of a change of pace from the other songs with its rock beats that have a punk element that includes fast guitars and drum beats along with the occasional punk like, hey, hey backing vocals chants. Stephanie Smith's music has a lot to offer with its catchy melodies, driving rock beats, and strong vocals. Style: Pop/ Rock Songs: 1. Back to Innocence 2. Heart Attack 3. Pieces of My Heart 4. If You Really Want the World to Change 5. Joshua Favorite Songs: Back to Innocence, If You Really Want the World to Change Website: http://www.stephanieisagirl.com Overall: 8.6 out of 10
