Australia's national Christian music charts, The Rock Across Australia (TRAA), today announced Switchfoot's This Is Home as 2008 Song of the Year, and honored 24 year old American singer Britt Nicole as the 2008 Artist of the Year.

This is first time Switchfoot and Britt Nicole have earned TRAA honors.

The internationally acclaimed pop-rock quintet spent eight weeks atop TRAA with This Is Home, a song featured on The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian Soundtrack, and Switchfoot's The Best Yet compilation.

Best known for its 2003 CD The Beautiful Letdown and singles Meant to Live and Dare You to Move, Switchfoot regards itself as a mainstream act but is included in TRAA because of its parallel distribution in the Christian sector.

Britt Nicole garnered Artist honors for three songs - Believe, Set The World On Fire and Don't Worry Now - with each landing in the top half of TRAA's end of year chart. Her songs spent a total of 79 weeks in the survey with dual listings each week for more than half the year.

Other contenders for TRAA awards this year included Alabaster Box.  The US based Aussie pop rock trio was the only act to score two number ones (We Will Not be Silent, and New York) during the year.

TRAA's annual airplay accolades recognise the artist or group gaining the most airplay on Australian Christian radio, plus the individual song generating the most airplay.

TRAA compiles its weekly charts from playlists supplied by more than 20 of the nation's largest Christian stations including Hope 103.2 (Sydney), 89.9 Light FM (Melbourne), 96Five (Brisbane), Life FM (Adelaide), Sonshine FM (Perth), 96Three (Geelong), and the Vision Radio Network (national).
Together, these stations attract more than 1.1 million listeners weekly.
