Artist: Family Force 5
Album Name: Dance or Die
Label: Tooth and Nail Records, EMI
Comments: Gotee Records scored big when they signed Atlanta Georgia based Family Force 5 a couple years ago. The band’s first album, Business Up Front, Party In The Back, was over-the-top fantastic, providing a breath of fresh creativity into the CM industry. So now they released Dance or Die and the question is, is there a sophomore slump? So here are my thoughts…
Dance or Die is different from the standpoint that unlike many of the ‘story’ based songs on Business Up Front, Party In The Back, Dance or Die doesn’t replicate that very well. They were part of the magic that made such a splash for Family Force 5. So from that aspect, I was a tad disappointed. The good news is that the songs that make up the new album are still very good. They are just a little different than what you might be expecting. They are just as fresh, just as creative and just as fun to listen to. The updated 80’s sound is still there, the crazy vocals and rhythms remain and for fans of FF5, this will be the best album of the year. I can’t wait to see them in concert in the coming year because Dance or Die is a big win for crunk fans everywhere.
