Artist: The Beautiful Republic
Album Name: Perceptions
Label: ForeFront Records
Comments: Toledo Ohio’s latest band to see success, This Beautiful Republic, releases their second major release under the ForeFront Records label called Perceptions. Perceptions is the follow-up to their 2007 debut called Even Heroes Need A Parachute. Since I am just down the road from their home town, I have been able to see them a few times in concert. They always put on a great show exuding an amazing amount of energy on stage. A show well worth going to if you get a chance to. Because of this, I was eager to get my hands on their sophomore offering.
Perceptions goes a long way to advance their young career with thirteen creative and spiritually laced songs. The musical range of lead singer Ben Olin’s vocals extend from soft ballads to mildly screamer songs giving the album a great over feel of depth. Perceptions seems to take advantage of that more than their first album which was great to hear. The song lyrics are clear and understandable and show a great deal of growth. This should turn into more radio hits for the band and I can picture at least three of the songs on the album being solid fan favorites.
Perceptions gives a bold account of the bands faith in Christ. Songs like For the Life of Me and My God make it clear what this band believes without sacrificing anything. This album is solid and one that won’t leave your mp3 player for a long time.
Notes: Perceptions was produced by Allen Salmon of Mute Math.
